ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — After a week of waiting at the Ibrahim Khalil border gate, Turkey finally allowed for the corpses of 13 YPG fighters to enter Turkey, according to Rudaw's Duhok correspondent Ubeyd Rashavayi.
Faysal Sariyildiz, a Turkish MP from the HDP party, told reporters that after the necessary autopsies for the bodies, they will be sent home for burial. He also said there will not be any public gatherings or receptions for the corpses for fear of provocations.
The 13 YPG fighters were originally from the Kurdish areas of Turkey and were killed during the YPG's war with ISIS militants in Rojava, Syrian Kurdistan.
Their bodies were brought to Iraqi Kurdistan through the Fishhabur border gate on July 27 to be sent to Turkey afterwards, but Turkish authorities initially rejected their repatriation.
