ERBIL, Kurdistan Region -  Israeli army announced on Saturday that it “eliminated” Hezbollah Leader Hassan Nasrallah in an airstrike on the group’s headquarters in southern Lebanon the previous day.

Avichay Adraee, Arabic spokesperson for the Israeli Defence Forces, said Nasrallah and Ali Karaki, head of the pro-Iranian group’s southern front, were killed when Tel Aviv hit the central headquarters of Hezbollah “located underground under a residential building in the southern suburb of the [Dahieh] area.”

“The raid was carried out while the leadership of the War of God was inside the headquarters and was coordinating terrorist activities against the citizens of Israel,” he added.

Hezbollah confirmed the "martyrdom" of its leader hours later.

Several people were killed and tens others were injured in the Israeli airstrike, according to Lebanon’s health ministry.

Addressing the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that “enough is enough.”

"Israel has been tolerating this intolerable situation for nearly a year. Well, I've come here today to say enough is enough,” he said, referring to threats from Hezbollah.

"As long as Hezbollah chooses the path of war, Israel has no choice, and Israel has every right to remove this threat and return our citizens to their homes safely,” he added.

The conflict between Hezbollah and Israel has intensified since October 7, when Palestinian Hamas militants launched a large-scale incursion into southern Israel, killing more than 1,170 people, according to Israeli figures. Israel responded with a massive ongoing offensive on Gaza, killing over 40,000 people, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

Israel has also stepped up its strikes in Lebanon and parts of Syria over the past year, targeting Hezbollah and Iranian personnel.
