ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Iran fired missiles toward Israel on Sunday following threats by Iranian officials against Tel Aviv over its recent strikes in Lebanon.
"The Israeli military said it has identified missiles launched from Iran toward Israeli territory a short while ago," said the Israeli army in a statement.
It added that sirens have been activated in several areas across Israel "following the detection of missiles launched from Iran toward Israeli territory."
Iranian semi-official media said the missiles were fired from the Kurdish city of Kermanshah in western Iran.
Following the launch of the missiles, Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters, the military command of armed forces, accused Israel of violating the ceaseire and escalating attacks on Lebanon with US backing and international silence, alleging the use of prohibited weapons.
It warned that Israel's strikes on Beirut's southern suburbs had crossed "all red lines" and threatened "more crushing and regret-inducing blows" if attacks continue or if Israel responds to Iranian actions.
Following the missile attacks, US President Donald Trump told Fox News, "What I would suggest to Iran: You've shot your missiles, that's enough. Get back to the table and make a deal."
He later told Axios that he plans to call Netanyahu and urge him not to retaliate. Axios reported earlier, citing an unnamed Israeli official, that Israel "is going to retaliate to the Iranian attack."
Meanwhile, the Israeli military said it had so far intercepted all Iranian missiles, warning that the Islamic Republic had launched a new salvo.
"The IDF intercepted all missiles from Iran thus far. The IDF has currently identified additional launches fired toward the State of Israel," the military said. "The Aerial Defense Array is currently identifying and intercepting threats."
According to videos released on Iranian social media, pro-government supporters in Tehran celebrated the launch of the missiles by IRGC.
Iran's IRGC said in a statement carried by Tasnim News Agency that its latest missile attack targeted the Ramat David Airbase, which it described as the source of recent Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
Calling the strike a "warning," the IRGC added that if Israel continues its attacks on Lebanon, Tehran's response will be broader next time and will "encompass all American and Zionist targets in the region."
This is a developing story...
