ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - An Iranian Kurdish opposition party said Monday that one of its bases near Erbil was hit by four one-way attack drones, sparking a fire in nearby dry grass. Earlier in the day, at least one explosion was reported in Koya, the Erbil province town that hosts the base of another dissident group.
The attacks are the latest in Iran's ongoing campaign against targets in the Kurdistan Region as part of the war with the US.
"Moments ago, four drones attacked the Chamshari headquarters of the Kurdistan National Army and the Pakshari base of the Kurdistan Freedom Party," said PAK in a statement, referring to its armed wing.
The party also published a video showing fire spreading through dry grass in the area, without elaborating further.
Hours earlier, at least one explosion was reported in Erbil's Koya district, caused by an unidentified projectile. Footage obtained by Rudaw shows smoke billowing from the foot of a mountain in Koya. A source told Rudaw the area was targeted with a drone.
Koya has repeatedly come under fire amid Iran's attacks on the Kurdistan Region, including strikes targeting Iranian Kurdish opposition groups. The town is home to Azadi Camp, which houses members and families of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI), one of several Iranian Kurdish opposition groups based in the Region that Tehran accuses of fomenting unrest inside Iran and siding with Americans.
Iran has not officially claimed responsibility for the latest attack on Koya, though the country's semi-official media reported it.
Iranian Kurdish parties based in Koya have not reported any new attacks in the area.
