The drone hit a civilian vehicle in the Amuda district of Hasaka province. A man identified as Jwan Mohammed was killed and two other people in the same car were injured, Amuda local council said in a statement reported by Hawar News Agency (ANHA) on Friday.
The 34-year-old Mohammed was an employee of the French NGO ACTED, North Press Agency reported, citing his parents.
Since October, Turkey has conducted several assaults on security forces in Rojava and civilian infrastructure in retaliation for a Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) attack on the interior ministry in Ankara. Numerous civilians and members of security forces have been killed.
The Kurdish autonomous administration that governs Rojava said on Friday that Ankara’s attacks are a “full-fledged war crime.”
These attacks are the latest military operation that Turkey has conducted over the past five years against Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the internationally-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Rojava that Ankara says are terrorist groups with ties to the PKK and pose a security threat.
Human Rights Watch said earlier this month that “In their successive military operations in northern Syria, the Turkish Armed Forces appear to have repeatedly failed to take necessary precautions to avoid civilian casualties.”
ACTED provides assistance such as water, food, and sanitation to Syrians whose livelihoods and safety have been devastated by more than a decade of war.
