ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Another Iraqi has been killed in al-Hol camp in northeast Syria (Rojava), according to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which said they have arrested 10 people in connection with a rising number of killings in the camp.

An Islamic State group (ISIS) cell killed an Iraqi using “a pistol with a silencer,” the SDF’s Coordination and Military Operations Center tweeted on Thursday. The man who was killed was part of a civil council established by Iraqis in the camp to organize their affairs. They are not affiliated with the camp administration.

Two other Iraqis in the camp were shot dead on Monday, allegedly by ISIS members.

Al-Hol has a population of nearly 62,000, mainly family members of ISIS militants. Tens of people have been murdered in the camp this year. Most of the victims are Iraqis, who number an estimated more than 30,000.

Also on Thursday, the SDF’s media office announced their forces arrested 10 ISIS suspects who were “involved in assassinations against civilians in the camp.” The arrests were made in al-Hol and in al-Shuhail town in Deir ez-Zor province.

The SDF frequently carries out operations against ISIS fighters in Deir ez-Zor. On Sunday, they arrested a group of nine ISIS fighters, including leaders, who were “active in assassinating, planting IEDs, & weapons transferring.”
