Rudaw team: deaths in Syrian war now top 150,000

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – A team of Rudaw researchers working inside Syria has released a comprehensive death toll compiled from the Syrian Civil War from March 2011 to June 2015. 

According to the Rudaw team, 131,337 civilians and members of the Free Syrian Army fighters have been killed during 1,536 days of conflict, an average of 86 victims per day.

During the same time period, the Damascus government of President Bashar al-Assad has lost 20,277 soldiers and security forces in fierce fighting with various rebel groups. 

The Rudaw team found that a total of 151,614 people have been killed during the more than four years of the Syrian Civil War.

The Rudaw team has also found that 61,494 people from the Free Syrian Army, protesters, Islamist group and other rebel groups have been jailed by the Syrian government, with 2,421 others still missing.
