"We are very sad to announce that Zau Seng, our Kachin cameraman and medic from Burma, was killed today, Nov. 3., by a Free Syrian Army/Turkish Army mortar strike that hit our forward casualty collection point where we were assembled to treat the wounded," said a statement posted to the Rangers' website.

The strike took place four kilometers north of Tel Tamr, detailed the statement. The wounded team member, an Iraqi coordinator, is receiving treatment at a hospital in Hasaka, according to Rudaw's Roj Eli Zalla.

The Free Burma Rangers are a non-profit organization delivering emergency medical assistance to those in need in northern Syria, where Turkey's Operation Peace Spring against Kurdish-led forces is currently in full force.

Spokesperson for the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Mustafa Bali tweeted in response to the news, calling Seng a "hero."
