ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Baghdad’s Green Zone early Thursday was targeted by two rockets, an Iraqi security source told AFP.

The attack caused no damage or casualties, according to the source.

The early morning attack took place following the conclusion of days of strategic talks between Iraq and the US, where President Joe Biden announced an end to the presence of US combat troops. With the shift in mission focus, no changes to troop numbers were announced and it is not clear if there will be any reduction of the 2,500 US soldiers currently in Iraq.

Similar attacks on international targets in Iraq are blamed on Iran-backed Iraqi militias who want to force American forces to withdraw from the country. Facilities in the Kurdistan Region have increasingly come under attack, by both rockets and drones, in recent months.

After the US conducted airstrikes against militias on the Iraq-Syria border in late June, sites in Syria have also come under attack several times.
