The city of Sulaimani is celebrating its 234th anniversary this week.

The city held an exhibition of Kurdistan traditional foods, clothes, and products, along with some music and dancing.

Four personalities of the city, Ahmed Salar, Badiaa Dartash, Hussein Arif, and Jalaly Sam Agha, were honoured with awards on the occasion.

The second largest city in the Kurdistan Region, Sulaimani was founded by a Kurdish prince, Ibrahim Pasha, on November 14, 1784.

A statue of Pasha was unveiled in the central Sera Square in September.

Many prominent pioneers of Kurdish poetry, thoughts, and national struggle have hailed from the city.

With a reputation as a city of enlightenment, Sulaimani is officially recognized by the KRG as the ‘Capital of Culture.’
