ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A large fire broke out in Erbil city’s Langa bazar on Tuesday evening, allegedly caused by an electric short circuit. The fire has yet to be controlled.

Firefighting teams have rushed to the bazar, located in the central area of Erbil, in an attempt to control the blaze, according to Rudaw’s reporter on the ground. Firefighters ultimately brought the fire under control after battling the blaze for about two hours.

“An electric short circuit caused a fire,” a witness told Rudaw.

The bazar is famous among locals for selling high-quality, second-hand goods, including clothing, furniture, and other items.

It is not the first time that fire has broken out in the market. There have been similar incidents in the past that have burned hundreds of shops, causing large financial damages on business owners.

In 2018, a massive fire caused by a short circuit burned large parts of the Langa bazar and left scores of shops closed for an extended period of time.
