Mishta Nur Hospital, managed by Doctors without Borders, is held by ISIS
Fighters with the Islamic State, or ISIS, are holding at least 50 hostages inside a besieged hospital in the Syrian city of Kobani in the aftermath of Thursday's attack on the Kurdish city, a Rudaw reporter inside the city has said.
The extremists stormed Mishta Nur Hospital at 4am on Thursday and set up sniper positions in the building's upper areas. Since that time, fierce fighting has raged between the ISIS fighter and the local YPG, or People's Protection Units, forces.
“For the second day, ISIS is controlling in Mishta Nur Hospital, a secondary school and two other buildings near Rashad mosque,” Rudaw's Omar Kalo said.
Khalid Berkal, deputy manager of Kobani Canton, said Mishta Nur Hospital is run in coordination with Doctors Without Borders, a global humanitarian organization.
Berkal added that five foreign doctors, including an American, who worked at the hospital are not among the captives.
