DUHOK, Kurdistan Region — The Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) visited villages in Duhok province’s border areas on Sunday to monitor the destruction of Turkish cross-border incursions.
The organization focuses on violence reduction and human rights in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. They collect data about the area and deliver it to international organizations.
“We're beginning to do advocacy work and we're hoping to spread and share the information, the data that we have, especially with consulates and international organizations, and to bring more awareness to the civilian impact of Turkey's bombings,” said Christopher Lee, a CPT team member.
Airstrikes have caused damage to villages and farms, preventing villagers and farmers from entering their fields.
The mayor of Kani Masi estimates the damage villagers have suffered to amount to six to seven billion dinars. Beehives, orchards, and irrigation systems were the most severely damaged.
The CPT earlier this month released a report about the impact of Turkey's operation Claw-Lightening
It urged Turkey to "immediately" cease its military operations targeting civilians in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
