ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeted the Azadi camp of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI) with three Hadid-110 drones near Erbil in the early of Monday morning, a senior official of the Iranian Kurdish opposition group told Rudaw English.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)-affiliated Telegram channels reported the attack and posted videos showing explosions in Koya. They claimed that several drones and missiles were used in the overnight strikes.
The incident marks the second reported attack targeting KDPI sites in the Kurdistan Region in less than a week.
Rudaw reached out to the spokesperson of the KDPI for comments, but he was not available. Three locals from Koya confirmed to Rudaw that strikes were carried out overnight. One reported at 2:01am that “several missiles and drones crossed the skies over Sangasar” located northeast of Koya near the Iranian border in the Kurdistan Region.
Last Thursday, three IRGC drones targeted a KDPI location in Deliziyan village near Soran in Erbil province, wounding one Peshmerga fighter, according to two security sources who spoke to Rudaw. A KDPI official also confirmed the attack.
The IRGC and affiliated Iraqi militias have targeted the Kurdistan Region with over 1,000 missiles and drones since February 28, the day US and Israel launched an aerial campaign against Iran, according to Rudaw’s tracking.
Kurdish opposition groups largely sat out of the conflict between Iran and the US and Israel, while their bases and residential areas in the Kurdistan Region have come under repeated attacks. Kurdish leaders have repeatedly said the Kurdistan Region is not a party to the conflict.
However, Kurdistan Regional Government’s Peshmerga forces and civilian structures, including residences of prominent officials such as the President and Prime Minister, have also come under attack.
