ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A short video about Kobani refugees in the Kurdistan Region was played at last month’s Miss Grand International (MGI) beauty contest in Thailand.

Dalia Hassan, a Kurdish woman who participated in the contest in 2014, told Rudaw the video was shown after she contacted the organizers of this year’s show.

“In April 2015, I called on an administrative team of Miss Grand International ceremony to pay a visit to Kurdistan,” Hassan said.

“The film was played during the ceremony exactly when 108 women from different countries were standing on stage,” she added. “The event was covered by many well known Thai and international TV channels.”

Hassan said that an MGI team had been in the Kurdistan Region to distribute aid to refugees.

Miss Grand International is an annual international beauty contest. Winners are expected to campaign against wars and violence.

This year’s contest was won by Anea Garcia from the Dominican Republic.
