ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani traveled to Doha on Wednesday to offer his condolences following the passing of Qatar’s late Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani (1952 - 2026).
The Kurdish Premier and his accompanying delegation were received by Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at Lusail Palace, the state-run Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) said in a statement that Prime Minister Barzani conveyed the Region’s “heartfelt condolences to the Emir, the Al Thani family, and the people of Qatar,” praying that the late Father Emir rest in “eternal peace” and that his family be “granted patience and comfort.”
The Qatari Emir, in turn, “expressed his appreciation for Prime Minister Barzani’s condolences and his attendance at the ceremony,” the KRG added.
Qatar’s late Father Emir passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 74, according to a statement from the Amiri Diwan, the country’s highest official body.
Doha declared four days of public mourning, with flags lowered to half-mast and government offices closed. Funeral prayers were held later that evening at the Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque in Doha, after which he was laid to rest at Lusail Cemetery.
