ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Kurdish Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani described the Iraqi political situation as “complicated" with no glimmer of hope that conditions may take a turn for the better.

"The political situation in Iraqi is complicated,” a statement on the website of the Kurdish Regional Government’s (KRG) quoted Barzani as saying during a wide-ranging meeting with cabinet ministers on Monday. “There might be bigger changes coming."

Barzani praised the unity of Kurdish factions in the Iraqi parliament in the face of recent events in Baghdad, most notably after Shiite Muqtada al-Sadr supporters stormed the parliament building earlier this week.

"We appreciate and acknowledge the unity and common purpose of Kurdish representatives in the parliament and the government of Iraq."

Barzani also addressed the latest KRG delegation visit to Baghdad where they met with US Secretary of State John Kerry and Baghdad authorities, and delivered the Kurdish leadership's concerns about power-sharing in Iraq.

John Kerry emphasized that America supports and assists the Kurdistan Region, financially and militarily, Barzani said.

In the meeting with Baghdad authorities, "We explicitly told Iraqi parties that Kurds have not felt that they have a share of power in Iraq."

Also in their meeting, the ministers highly praised the decisive role the Peshmerga played in retaking control of the Shiite village of Bashir in southern Kirkuk, and they sent condolences to the families of the Peshmerga victims who lost their lives in the fight, according to the statement.

Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani briefed the ministers on the official visit to the USA he and a KRG delegation took in mid-April.

"With US and international bank officials, we discussed the situation in the Kurdistan region and a means to help escape the economic crisis," Talabani said. "They expressed their willingness to help support the KRG."

Talabani added: "They are vigilant about the KRG's situation, which we explained in detail, and they were assured that the Kurdistan Regional Government is serious in its attempts to get out of the economic crisis and implement reforms."

In an effort to strengthen political, military, and economic ties and guarantee receipt of 17 percent of an estimated $15 billion that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is expected to approve for Iraq, as well as to discuss recent regional developments, a KRG delegation led by Talabani traveled to the United States on April 16.
