German foreign minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier expressed his country’s “serious concern” over the Kurdish independence referendum advocated by the major political parties in Kurdistan.

“In-depth talks w/ Pres #Barzani in the margins of #MSC2016: Serious concern on Kurdish independence referendum.” the German Foreign Office posted on their official twitter account on Saturday.

German’s Steinmeier and Kurdish President, Masoud Barzani, have reportedly had a thorough discussion on the Kurdish nation’s historic aspiration for independence and Barzani’s plan of holding a referendum as a part of the goal.

The two have met in the sidelines of Munich Security Conference on Saturday.
