ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Kurdistan region President Masoud Barzani arrived in the Turkish capital Ankara on Wednesday to hold a series of meetings with Turkish officials.

He was accompanied by a delegation that includes Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) spokesman Safeen Dizayi and Fuad Hussein, the chief of staff to the Kurdistan region presidency.

Barzani is slated to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkish Prime Minister Ahmed Davutoglu during his trip.

The officials will focus on the Kurdish issue in Turkey and attempts to seek peace with Kurdish militants in the country’s restive east demanding more political autonomy from Ankara.

On other topics, Barzani said Tuesday that Kurdistan will remain neutral in a row between Baghdad and Ankara over Iraqi objections to Turkish troops training Peshmerga forces near Mosul.

The Kurdistan region has developed close political and economic ties with Ankara in the past few years
