ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – At least 15 people were killed in airstrikes against an ISIS-held village in eastern Syria on Wednesday, monitoring groups have reported. It comes two days after another such incident killed at least 42 people.

The monitoring group Deir Ezzor 24 put the death toll at 15, while the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reports at least 30 people killed.

The Observatory said that they do not know the identity of the warplanes that carried out the “massacre” in the ISIS-held Dablan and its surroundings, 20 kilometers from al-Mayadeen in Deir ez-Zor.

The US-led Global Coalition against ISIS, Russia, and the Syrian regime are active in the Syrian airspace but bomb different and often opposing sides in Syria’s civil war.

Deir Ezzor 24 reported that the warplanes could be from Russia. It added that the warplanes dropped cluster bombs.

The airstrikes also resulted in a number of injured people, some said to be in “critical” condition, which may lead to a rise in the number of the dead, the Observatory said.

The Coalition supports the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces in their fight against the ISIS militants mainly in the ISIS-held Raqqa, the de facto capital of the extremist group. Russia and the Syrian regime have been more active in targeting the ISIS positions recently, particularly east of the country.

The Observatory blamed airstrikes that it said killed 42 civilians in Deir ez-Zor on Monday evening on the Coalition. It added that it targeted an ISIS prison, also killing 15 ISIS militants.
