ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) launched an operation to retake the town of Al-Bab in northern Syria from ISIS.
“The Free Syrian Army launches a new phase of Operation Euphrates Shield to liberate Aleppo’s Al-Bab,” read an announcement by Turkish state-run Anadolu Agency.
According to Turkish media, Turkey’s warplanes are also involved in the operation, providing air support to the advancing FSA forces.
FSA forces have pushed eight kilometers into Al-Bab over the past five days.
