ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Social media accounts affiliated with ISIS published a video on Monday purportedly of beheading a Russian soldier in Syria.

The twelve-minute long video footage shows a Russian officer named Pterinko Agheni kneeling before an ISIS militant.

Petrenko Afghene was said to be a Russian intelligence spy within ISIS ranks, gathering information on the group and secretly leaking it back to the Kremlin.

The release of the video comes with Russia scheduled to celebrate Victory Day over the German Nazis during World War II.

Prior to his beheading, Agheni calls upon the Russians to surrender.

Russia has not yet officially confirmed the accuracy of the video.

Backing the Syrian regime, Russia has been fighting Bashar al-Assad’s rival groups.

According to figures published by the Syrian Defense Ministry, nearly 30 Russian soldiers and officers have been killed in the fight against ISIS and other opposition groups in Syrian territory since September 2015.

Rudaw doesn't publish ISIS's footage which contains gruesome scenes aimed at propaganda for ISIS.
