ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Islamic State militants have torched tons of food meant for refugees at Yarmouk Camp in Damascus, according to reports.
The convoy carrying the supplies was forced to stop by ISIS fighters in the Syrian city of Halab, the Independent newspaper reported on Wednesday. A short time later, ISIS posted images of extremists burning the food aid on the group’s social media accounts.
“The food, especially meat and chicken, was not prepared according to Islamic codes and it is not halal [permissible by Islam],” posted an ISIS leader from the Syrian city of Raqqa.
International humanitarian organizations in charge of delivering the food denied the ISIS claim, saying the meat was prepared according to Islamic rules.
Islamic State militants infiltrated the Palestinian refugee camp of Yarmouk on April 1.
