ERBIL, Kurdistan Region -Seven Syrian soldiers and two Kurdish fighters were killed on Monday when clashes erupted between regime forces and the People's Protection Units (YPG) in the city of Hasaka.
According to local sources, the fighting broke out after soldiers of the Syrian National Defense targeted a checkpoint of the YPG security forces known as Asayish.
A local resident told Rudaw that fearing further escalation of the clashes hundreds of people have fled the regime controlled areas.
The Kurdish areas have seen occasional clashes between Kurdish forces and the Syrian regime who still maintains bases in Hasakah, Qamishli and other areas.
None of the clashes have escalated into a full-blown conflict between the two sides.
