ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — The Islamic State-affiliated Aamaq News released footage Monday described as showing the aftermath of airstrikes on Hajar al-Aswad, a district in southern Damascus.
The graphic footage shows children who appear to have been killed. Hajar al-Aswad lies to the south of Yarmouk refugee camp, a district into which Islamic State fighters moved in early April before reportedly withdrawing two weeks later.
The video shows the apparent bomb strike aftermath, followed by graphic footage of dead and injured children being treated and prepared for burial.
Established in 1957 for Palestinian refugees, the Yarmouk camp has frequently been the scene of fighting since the ongoing Syrian Civil War began in 2011. ISIS overran Yarmouk in April, and has since been in clashes with the pro-Hamas Aknaf Bait al-Maqdis Palestinian militia.
Both the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and a US-led coalition have been bombing ISIS sites in Syria, but the video does not directly indicate which party was responsible for the alleged strike shown in the video.
