ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—The convoy of Iraq’s Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi came under rocket fire in Ramadi shortly after he arrived to salute Iraqi forces for the city’s recapture.

An Iraqi army officer in Ramadi told Rudaw on condition of anonymity that Abadi’s convoy came under rocket fire while talking to a group of soldiers on the city’s al-Qasim bridge.

The officer added that the prime minister’s entourage had to evacuate the spot.

Iraqi troops reached the center of Ramadi on Monday seven months after its capture by the Islamic State (ISIS).
