With the eastern side of Mosul now fully under Iraqi army control, civilians fear that revenge killings may already be coming to their neighborhoods. People suspected or simply accused of collaboration with ISIS during their rule are the main target of such attacks.

One man told Rudaw about how his son who was neither an ISIS member or done anything wrong was killed by masked men shortly after their part of the city was liberated by the army.

"He told me I swear on Imam Ali, if he is an ISIS member I will kill him. I told him I swear I don't know him. Then two other armed men came
and said that they avenged for their brother and that they killed the other person, I didn't know they were talking about my brother."

The troops raised a giant Iraqi flag on the hill of Nabi Younis cemetery on Friday as the sign of their victory over ISIS and one soldier told Rudaw that people in Mosul should not fear—even though they were Shiites—because they had only come to free their city from ISIS.
