ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – US-led coalition airstrikes have killed a prominent ISIS leader along with 20 other militants, a well-placed source inside Mosul told Rudaw on Tuesday on condition of anonymity.
“The slain ISIS leader’s name is Mujbal Zeban Aluezi. He was the general director of Mosul police in the city prior to joining ISIS, and after Mosul fell to ISIS he joined the group’s militants,” said the source.
According to information obtained by Rudaw, Aluezi had a hand in yielding Mosul to ISIS and also took part in many battles against Peshmerga forces.
Earlier in April, an armed anti-ISIS group operating in Mosul claimed it had assassinated the military attaché of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the self-proclaimed caliph of the Islamic State.
