Former US Ambassador to Syria Robert Ford recently said that the Assad regime was winning the war and that the US would at some point abandon Syria and its allies on the ground.
In response to a question from Rudaw correspondent Namo Abdulla on this matter, US State Dept. Spokeswoman Heather Nauert said: “By backing its coalition partners the United States has taken back a significant amount of territory from ISIS in Syria.”
She said that the war against ISIS was a long process but the US found the victories on the ground with its partners encouraging.
On the topic of the US reassuring its partners especially the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Nauert said: “The SDF has been the best force to take back control of Raqqa. We have worked with them closely in that arena and they have done a very good job.”
