Iraqi commander: top ISIS official and gunmen killed in Anbar assault

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – A top official of the Islamic State group (ISIS) and several of his gunmen were killed in an attack by Iraqi forces in Anbar province, the commander in charge of the mission said Thursday.

Hamad Abdulrazaq Dailamy told reporters that equipment and vehicles belonging to ISIS, or Daesh as the group is known in Arabic, were destroyed.

“Abu Anas Rawi, a Daesh top official in west Anbar’s Jazeera district, and a number of his gunmen were killed and their equipment and vehicles were destroyed by fire,” Dailamy said.

The operation was reportedly conducted by Dailamy’s forces, which included tribal gunmen from the Baghdadi and Haditha areas of of Anbar.
