US asks Peshmarga, other Iraqi forces to have one commander for all

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States of America, General Josef F. Dunford, asked all forces fighting the Islamic State known as ISIS to appoint one single commander, according to Pentagon’s official website.

According to Pentagon, General Dunford has met Iraqi leaders and has urged them to unite under one commander. “The government needs to appoint a military leader with command for the overall military effort in the country – including the Iraqi security forces, the Kurdish Peshmerga forces,” Dunford was quoted as saying.

According to the website, General Dunford sees having one common commander for all Iraqis necessary as the coalition forces need to have one person from Iraq who can speak with authority to the coalition forces.

The Iraqis will sit down and choose the commander, Dunford said.

General Dunford arrived in Iraq on October 21, in an unannounced visit. This was his first visit to Iraq since his taking office in first of October.
