Supporters of Shia cleric Moqtada al-Sadr took stormed the Green Zone on Friday. Thousands of protesters gathered in Tahrir Square on Friday afternoon and then headed to the Green Zone. Protesters damaged the Komari bridge. Security forces fired into the air, but protesters were not deterred. They broke the gate and entered the prime minister’s office.

According to the latest information from Rudaw’s correspondent, Bahman Hassan, three protesters and a journalist were killed. A further 25 protesters and three journalists were wounded. 

Protesters are now leaving the Green Zone and security forces have taken back control of the Cabinet of Ministers and other governmental offices.
