ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—Security forces opened fire on protesters storming Baghdad’s Green Zone on Friday, killing three and wounding 20.
Thousands of demonstrators had gathered on Friday in Baghdad’s Tahrir Square. A number of them tried to enter the fortified Green Zone, which houses government institutions and foreign consulates.
A Rudaw reporter on the scene reported that security forces opened fire on the protesters, using tear gas and live rounds. “Security forces fired tear gas to disperse demonstrators who stormed the Green Zone.”
Supporters of Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr tore down Green Zone barriers and took over the Iraqi parliament on April 30, demanding political reform and an end to corruption.

Three protesters were killed and another twenty have been wounded, including five journalists, our reporter said.
