ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi is scheduled to visit the Iranian capital of Tehran on Wednesday for talks on a range of regional issues.

“For the purpose of strengthening bilateral relations between Baghdad and Tehran, Abadi is scheduled to visit Iran on Wednesday,” said Saad Hadithi, a spokesperson for the prime minister’s office, at a Monday press conference in Baghdad.

Iran's role in combating ISIS in Iraq, weakening ISIS and cutting off its economic resources are going to be the main topics of the meetings between the Iraqi and Iranian delegations.

Previously, Iraqi President Fuad Masum headed a delegation to Iran in mid-May to discuss the latest security developments in the region and boost economic ties.
