ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – A car bomb explosion at a grocery market north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad early Tuesday has killed at least seven people and wounded more than 30 others, the police said.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Security forces said that they had defused a second explosive truck placed under the Rashidiya bridge.
The police have blocked roads leading into neighborhoods of today’s attack.
Thursday’s attack comes amid rising violence in and around the capital in recent weeks.
A massive bombing in Baghdad’s Karrada earlier this month killed more than 292 people, followed days later by an attack on a Shiite shrine in Balad by ISIS men that claimed the lives of 40 people.
Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi has sacked several high-level security officials since the Karrada bombing and there are calls to summon the interior minister to parliament to answer for the capital’s failing security.
