Anger about corruption in previous Iraqi governments kept voters in the US away from polling booths.
Voter turnout was disappointingly low, Nida Ameen Hamza, station manager at a polling centre in Virginia, told Rudaw.
“The first reason was that the vote was held during work hours,” she explained. “Second, there were strict voter ID verifications, and the third and main reason was that there is a large group of voters who have decided to boycott the elections due to corruption in the previous governments.”
