ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – In the continuation of the Anbar military campaigns, some 12 ISIS militants have been killed and another 20 wounded, according to the Baghdad operations command Tuesday.
They added that tens of landmines had also been defused by bomb disposal teams.
“The security forces of the Baghdad military operations managed to destroy an ISIS vehicle rigged with explosives, killing 12 militants in it, and three of the dead militants were suicide bombers,” said Saad Maan, a Baghdad operations room spokesman.
Maan added, “With the help of the bomb disposal teams, we managed to defuse many landmines and bombs in the Anbar towns of Rashid, Albu Ausaj and Khetimiya.”
The spokesperson also mentioned the capture of a suspect and several ammunition manufacturing tools.
The military campaign to push the Islamic State group out of Sunni-majority Anbar province started in early April.
The Iraqi Army, Kurdish Peshmerga, Shiite militiamen and volunteers from Sunni tribes are all engaged in the fight against ISIS in different parts of Iraq.
