Senior ISIS leader killed in joint Kurdish-US commando operation on Iraq-Syria border

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—Kurdish counterterrorism and US special forces killed Haji Hamad, a senior Islamic State (ISIS) leader responsible for the group’s natural resources near the Iraq-Syria border Thursday morning, the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) said in a statement.

 

“In the early hours of this morning a joint operation was conducted by our Directorate General of Counter Terrorism (CTD) and U.S. Special Forces in the vicinity of Qaim near the Iraqi-Syrian border killing senior Islamic State (ISIL) member Sami Jassim Mohammed Al-Jabouri, known by the nom de guerre Haji Hamad.” KRSC reported. 

 

According to the KRSC, “Hamad was responsible for ISIL's natural resources in Iraq and Syria. He and an aide were killed in the operation.”

 

The KRSC said in its statement that “All personnel safely returned to their base.”
