ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Iraqi security forces have surrounded the occupied city of Ramadi, military sources said Monday

The source said the advance into the city had been slowed by landmines and explosive-rigged homes and vehicles, notably in eastern Ramadi.

”After the security forces managed to control Warayan military base, they advanced in eastern Ramadi. It is also reported that Ramadi glass factory was controlled by the security forces," the military source told Rudaw.

“After controlling Falastine dam and Jarayish roundabout the security forces manged to surround Ramadi, ” the military source added.

The military source said security forces had bombarded the ISIS police office in Komari district, which led into the death of three members of the terrorist organization.

The military campaign to push ISIS out of Sunni-majority Anbar province was launched in early June.

In mid-July, the Iraqi defense ministry announced the resumption of an offensive against ISIS in Anbar province with a joint army, police and Shiite force of 10,000 fighters.

ISIS seized Ramadi on May 17, in what is considered one of the jihadists’ most important victories, and has held most of Anbar, the largest province in Iraq, since last year.
