ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A car bomb in the town of Baquba in Diyala province killed 12 and wounded 40 others on Monday evening.

"Close to a restaurant in the area of Shafta in Baquba, a car bomb went off, killing 12 people and wounding 40 others," said a Rudaw correspondent in Baquba.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility of the attack.

The ISIS announcement said that the car bomb had targeted a group of Shiite Hashd al-Shaabi militia.

ISIS’ attack on Baquba comes as the Pentagon released information that the Islamic State leader in Anbar province has been killed in an airstrike.
