ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – With one week left in the campaign, the electoral commission said it has so far fined 210 candidates for violations of commission guidelines.
The 210 candidates from across parties and lists have been slapped with monetary fines, Azim al-Radaini, member of the Iraqi electoral commission, told Rudaw.
None have been disqualified, he added.
Violations largely related to placement of campaign posters – such as hanging them in public places – or using government buildings to campaign, Radaini explained.
Over 7,300 candidates are vying for 329 seats in the Iraqi parliament. Voters will go to the polls on May 12.
