ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Islamic State fighters launched an attack on Peshmerga positions at the Mosul Dam on Wednesday, said a Peshmerga source involved in the fighting.
“ISIS launched the assault with two Humvees in two different prongs on Peshmerga on the Mosul Dam front. Peshmerga with the help of US-led coalition air strikes were able to defeat them and two ISIS fighters were incinerated inside their vehicles ,” said Ayoub Nasradin, a Kurdish fighter with the 1st Special Brigade Peshmerga.
According to Nasradin, ISIS fighters also launched attacks on the Peshmerga in other areas of Mosul province. Another vehicle-led assault hit the frontlines in Badoosh and the military stockades in Barzan where also targeted.
Nasradin said a total of seven militants were killed in the attacks.
An airstrike carried out by the US-led coalition also destroyed an ISIS armored vehicle in the area. Nasradin said there is no information how many militants were inside, but none escaped.
