Iraqi security forces have imposed a curfew in Samarra, 125 kilometers north of Baghdad, following armed attacks on two police stations on Monday.
“A number of terrorists wearing suicide vests attacked a police station in Samarra. Security forces repelled their attack, killed two of the suicide attackers and besieged the rest in the police station. The security forces have imposed their control over the site,” said the Iraq War Media Office in a statement.
At least seven policemen are said to have been killed. Clashes are ongoing.
