ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—The top commander of the Iraqi army’s Jazira operations known as Brigader Ali Aboud was reportedly killed in Islamic State (ISIS) suicide attack in the town of Haditha in western Anbar province, an Iraqi official told Rudaw Tuesday.

Major General Ali Ibrahim, head of Iraqi Army’s Jazira and Badiya command operation released the news of the casualties.

“Today, ISIS held an assault through four suicide attackers on a military base which lead into the death of Brigader Aboud,” Ibrahim said.

He added that the attack resulted in the death of several Iraqi soldiers and officers, with the latest figures yet to be announced.

The Iraqi army recaptured the city of Ramadi in December and have since battled ISIS across the province with the help of local Sunni tribes.
