ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Iran said it has no differences with Russia over Syria, where Tehran and Moscow both stand behind President Bashar al-Assad, Iran’s Press TV reported on Sunday.

“There is no disagreement between Iran and Russia with regard to Syria,” Hossein Amir Abdullahian, one of Iran’s deputy foreign ministers, was quoted as saying.

He blamed claims of differences between Tehran and Moscow over Syria on “certain Western media.”

Iran and Russia “diligently assist the Syrian army in the fight against terrorism,” the report said.

Russia stepped into the Syrian war last month on the side of Assad’s regime, where it has been carrying out air raids nearly every day.

Iranian troops are also actively involved in the Syrian war, with many Iranian solders, commanders and advisors reportedly killed in fighting groups opposed to the Syrian government.

The US-led coalition, together with regional ally Turkey, stand opposed to Assad and have been assisting forces opposed to him.
