ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Iran claims it test fired a missile with a range of 2,000 kilometers two weeks ago.
"We tested a missile with a range of 2,000 kilometers (1,240 miles) and eight meters error margin two weeks ago," the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Brigadier General Ali Abdollahi, said according to the Tasnim News Agency on Monday.
"An eight-meter error margin means ... full accuracy," he went on to claim.
Abdollahi did not elaborate or explain the exact type of missile tested.
Iran has sought to improve the precision of its missile arsenal to make them more effective. The US and the Europeans denounce these missile tests, accusing the Iranians of violating a UN Security Council resolution which forbids Tehran from testing nuclear-capable missiles.
Iran claims all of its missiles can only carry conventional payloads and are purely for defensive purposes.
