The Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in some new remarks accused the United States for being behind the failed coup in Turkey last month, and also made angry comments against America and its regional ally Saudi Arabia.

“Americans are against Islam and Islamic approach; so it’s possible they want to drive a coup in Turkey which has Islamic approaches,” said Khamenei on his twitter on Monday

“In recent events in Turkey, strong accusations are raised against Americans being behind coup; if proved; it’s as huge scandal for US.” he said in another tweet on his official account.

Khamenei has also accused US of violating the nuclear agreement with Iran, saying this means Washington cannot be trusted when it comes to negotiations over other issues, especially crises in the Middle East region.

“Experience of US violation of JCPOA [Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action nuclear deal] commitment proved that we cannot negotiate in any issue with US as a reliable party.” Khamenei tweeted.

“Today, even the diplomatic officials and those who were present in the [nuclear] negotiations reiterate the fact that the US is breaching its promises, and while speaking softly and sweetly [to Iran], is busy obstructing and damaging Iran’s economic relations with other countries,” Khamenei said in a meeting with thousands of Iranians from several provinces in Tehran on Monday according to the Iranian channel Press TV.

The JCPOA was signed between five members of the UN Security Council – the US, Britain, France, Russia and China plus Germany – in July 2015 and the implementation of the agreement started last January.

“They [the US officials] say come and negotiate [with us] on regional issues as well, but the JCPOA experience tells us that taking this step would be a deadly poison and that the Americans’ remarks cannot be trusted on any issue.” Khamenei said during the meeting

He also accused America for not taking effective actions against the extremist organizations, which he invariably calls “Takfiri groups”, and even went so far as to accuse the US of supporting such groups.

“The Americans claim that they have set up a coalition against Takfiri groups. This is while they are carrying out no effective measure against them and according to some reports, they are even providing these groups with assistance,” Khamenei stated.

Khamenei thinks that the regional countries do not need US involvement to fix regional issues, and accused the US of using Arab regimes in the region as tools to protect Israel

“Regional nations are capable of resolving these issues and while calling on regional governments [to help fix these issues], we also reaffirm that the US is not trustworthy and sees the Arab governments as a tool to protect the Zionist regime [of Israel] and meet its own hegemonic interests in the region,” the Supreme Leader claimed.

Khamenei also attacked Saudi Arabia for being involved in atrocities in Yemen, and says Americans are behind the Saudi Arabia’s relations with Israel.

“Revelation of Saudi government’s relations with Zionist regime was stab in the back of Islamic Ummah,” Khamenei tweeted on Monday.

“This move by the Saudis is a big sin and treachery, but the Americans are also complicit in this massive wrong measure because the Saudi government is follower, possessed by and subservient to the American government.” he said during Monday’s meeting.

Over the course of the last month Khamenei has made a series of hostile comments against America, accusing them of trying to turn crises in Bahrain, Iraq and Syria into civil wars.

“Since the very beginning of the victory of the Islamic Revolution [in 1979], the US did not hesitate to show enmity with the venerable Imam [Khomeini] and his major drive. This enmity has continued until today, but the US plots have not materialized due to the awakening of the nation, vigilance of the government and the preparedness of officials.” claimed Khamenei while delivering sermons of Eid al-Fitr Prayers in Tehran on 7 July, according to his official website.

“They turned a political dispute into fratricide and then by financial and arms supply and with ill-gotten oil revenues they brought some people from different regions to Syria and Iraq and triggered insecurity and created tensions which are prevailing in the region today,” he claimed.

“We are witnessing another example of these efforts for turning a political dispute into a civil war in Bahrain,” Khamenei added.
