ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The United Nations' special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura visited Tehran on Tuesday where Iranian diplomats agreed that a transition in Syria is "crucially urgent."
De Mistura met Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian for talks a mere day after he visited Damascus. Afterwards he reported that Iran was "happy to see that we are approaching a political solution to this crisis."
Following his meeting with De Mistura Amir-Abdollahian blamed, according to Iran's IRNA state news agency, these violations on the "increasing activities of armed groups in recent days and the increase in breaches of the ceasefire that can harm the political process."
France also voiced concern about these violations but unlike Iran blamed the Syrian regime for them.
Peace talks are set to resume in Geneva on Wednesday.
