ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—Tehran accused Saudi Arabia on Thursday of bombing its embassy in the Yemeni capital Sana in a “deliberate and intentional act,” that wounded a number of embassy staff.
"This deliberate and intentional act by the Saudi Arabian government is in violation of all international conventions and legal treaties regarding the protection and impunity of diplomatic compounds under all circumstances." The spokesman of Iran's Foreign Ministry, Hossein Jaberi Ansari told Iran’s state television.
"Iran holds the government of Saudi Arabia responsible for this act and wounding of a number of embassy staff and damages made to its building." Ansari said.
A Saudi-led coalition has been bombing Houthi tribesmen in Yemen since last year and Riyadh has accused Iran of supporting them with arms and finances.
The Saudi coalition spokesman, Brigadier General Ahmed Asseri said, according to Reuters, that they would investigate Iran's charge and added that the Houthis sometimes use civilian facilities to try and avoid coalition air strikes.
Saudi Arabia and a number of Arab countries severed relations with Iran after the ransacking of the Saudi embassy in Tehran this week by angry mobs protesting the execution of Shiite cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr by Riyadh.
