Visitors to Erbil’s thriving currency exchange market will find all sorts of exotic banknotes of all colors, origins, and denominations. Although gigantic sums of cash change hands here, security is surprisingly lax.
It may shock foreign visitors to see savers and business owners arriving at this exchange with enormous bricks of currency bundled in plastic bags – convinced, it seems, they will not be robbed.
Some Arab traders say they prefer to use Erbil’s currency exchange, grateful for its security and honesty.
